Rwanda’s rebirth — a nation of unity emerges from the shadow of genocide (1)

A flame of remembrance has been set to burn for 100 days since April 7 as a solemn tribute to the Rwanda genocide in 1994.

 

The genocide, tearing apart communities of Hutus and Tutsis, found its roots in the colonial policies of Western powers. The seeds of division were sown through the colonial scheme of “divide and rule.”
